Never Stop Believing in Your People

Thursday December 06, 2007

Art Williams

“The only sure way for your people to lose is if they give up. Your lack of encouragement should never be the reason a person quits. A leader must always keep believing in people, no matter what.”

No. 1 – Have confidence in your people.

  • See each person as a winner.
  • Expect success from everyone.
  • Let people know you think they can win.

No. 2 – Recognize each accomplishment, no matter how small.

  • Show people that you know what they do.
  • Make each small accomplishment seem major – it really is.
  • Make your praise public – people love to be recognized among their peers.

No. 3 – Sell the dream, again.

  • Never think you can stop “selling the dream.”
  • People need to be constantly reminded of the rewards of their hard work.
  • Encourage people to talk about their personal goals and dreams. (You could have a “dream” session and ask each person to tell his personal “success dream.”)

No. 4 – Don’t give up on people when they make mistakes.

  • Live with them through the tough times, as well as the easy times.
  • Care about each person as an individual.
  • Allow people to learn from their mistakes. Never criticize.

AND…Never be guilty of giving up AS A LEADER.

Mr. Williams, I am the Vice President of Sales & Marketing for Southern Metal Products, LLC.

I was invited by my attorney and friend to hear you speak at a Leadership Breakfast in West Palm Beach two years ago. I was seeking a career change at the time and was truly inspired by the experience. I called my wife from my car immediately afterwards to tell her about the enthusiasm and passion you had re invigorated in me with your story of life and an unwavering faith.

Several months later a recruiter introduced me to an opportunity for the position I currently hold. I had another offer at the time for more money, but when I found out that you owned the company I accepted the position immediately.

I have never had the pleasure of meeting you personally, but the people you have surrounded yourself with are first class.

Loyalty and respect is never asked for…It must be earned and you have certainly earned it.

    Sincerely,

    Andrew Fortney

Art(coach), You have contributed to the quality of my life in soooo many ways. I’ve always said that i judge one way by results and not conversation. Well Art you have gone way beyond that, my association with you and Bill Olive has turned my life around and has given my family a legacy beyond their imagination and all of this when as a little boy i was told by a significant other that I would never amount to anything. I am someone speacial and you contributed to that, my friend. I excelled in football and wresting in high school and college. I went into the Marine Corp and excelled there as well. Since then I have become Financially Independant and have owned several business’s where currently I’m the founder of GLOBAL TEAM SYNERGY, http://myglobalteamsynergy.acnrep.com—I’M A MOTIVATIONAL SPEAKER AS WELL AND MY BOOK IS ALMOST DONE. I WOULD LOVE TO SEND YOU MY TABLE OF CONTENTS. There’s a chapter in there called who is Art Williams. Yes you touched my Heart Coach. Thanks Art

Thank you so much for dreaming YOUR DREAM, which has led to so many others learning to believe and dream their own dreams. My partner and I are out of the Quakertown, PA office under Karyn Bezar, Pam Trone is our upline. Pam, Scott Web and Melina Morivac are not only inspiring in the Art Williams tradition, they have become beloved family as well. NEVER have I worked for any company that was this supportive of MY PERSONAL success and growth. My future goal is to earn enough to see to my family’s needs, but to also be able to afford 2 horses, and the house, barn, land to keep them on, but to also be able to afford to GIVE AWAY between $500 to $1000 per month to support causes I strongly believe in. Such as feeding the hungry and supporting them in growing their own foods, building safe water wells, education, Animal welfare, and environmental issues.

We don’t need a whole lot to be happy, although I sure do want those horses! There is enough food on this planet that no human or animal should go to sleep hungry, let alone starve to death. Greed keeps the cycle going at a global level. The USA is a very generous nation of people, but sometimes what’s given never reaches those intended. Plus, people need to work, and be willing to work…(thanks to you Primerica even addresses THIS issue! We are hiring!)

I’ve never met you and don’t know if I will, but I know I love and respect you, because YOU DIDN’T KEEP THE DREAM A SECRET! You opened the doors to doing what is best and right for ourselves and for everyone we have a chance to help…Just Do IT…and DO THE RIGHT THING…it doesn’t get anymore beautiful than this!

    Art:

I was with Primerica for 5 years and have since moved on. I was an RVP but truly was not a sales person – it was just not part of who I am. However, I learned so much from being part of the company you built – and I learned so much from you. You are truly a phenomenal person and I so admire what you have done. The one thing that has stuck with me is that “Everyone wants to be somebody”. It was true when you said it and it is true now and if only companies would pay attention to that, they could prosper beyond belief. Thanks for your words of wisdom and thank you for building a company like Primerica. While it was not for me, it is truly amazing. Sincerely, Kim Johnson

Hi Art, so many of the previous comments mirror my feelings about the work you have done. It is remarkable that your ispirational messages still resonate in termites both past and present. Though, I quit when the “fire in the belly” died out in 1992, I have in my present incarnation as an independent college counselor, been teaching the money management principles to teenagers (and parents) ever since. The Rule of 72 is still not taught in high school…or college! Of course, we all know the reason for that. Our society has been dumbed down and common sense and critical thinking are rarely practiced or taught. I remember interviewing a prospective termite who had just graduated from Harvard with a degree in Economics. I asked him if he understood the power of the “Rule of 72” when it came to investing. “What is that?” he responded. Nuff said.
Yours for optimal health and happiness, Art and Angela.

What’s up, Mr. A.L. Williams? May I be myself? This is truly a blessing, just to be able to leave you a comment in hope that you get a chance to read it. You are one magnificent dude because of the families you are currently and continuing to affect. You have built a Great story! Great history! Great legacy! & Great Leaders! One in particular my Coach, Mentor, Financial Advisor & SNSD, Tyrone & Carolyn Taylor of Southfield, MI. They have truly copied your characteristics & strengths. They have giving us all of themselves & more. However, after reading several other comments, I dont understand why people would quit this business if they loved it so much…to do what? (PFS, til death do us part)I CAN’T WAIT TO MEET YOU…Thanks Art Williams MAY GOD CONTINUE TO BLESS!!! ps. please reply

I am so blessed to have been introduced to you, even though we have never met in person. I came into PFS in Septemeber 2001, and really had very little leadership. I was shown a system of recruiting that was NOT your system, and that is why I almost quit 20 times. But for some reason, Buy Term Invedst the Difference just seemed so right… so I couldn’t leave the Crusade. After about 2 years in the business with my RVP out-of-touch, I came across some old VHS tapes of your “Art of Recruiting”. And it felt like I struck gold.

I was trying to work a referral channel, I was trying to recruit friends, and I was having those friends take me in the back door to see their friends, and all I got was grief from the hierarchy about not making cold calls all day and night, and not having 100 people in the meeting on Tuesday… Well, the world has changed, and the “Do Not Call List” has arrived, and it is amazing to see these “leaders” scramble. They are now, after all of these years, saying what you said back in 1977.

All I can say is this: You laid the foundation for success. You have put your footprints in the sand for us to follow. It is up to us to follow them!

I am a loyal and committed RVP to you, Art Williams! ... and John & Rick too. I will not stop taking the fight to them! Those cash value scum, return of premium liars, interest-only mortgage bums, take the money and run brokers, are all in for a BAD DAY!!!

Art, you must be very proud of the number of former A.L. Williams reps who have been very successful in businesses other than insurance and securities. That shows that it wasn’t the A.L. Williams “opportunity” that was key, it was your message, your attitude, your leadership. Good Luck in the future. Steve

    Hi Art,
I met you quite a few times we started a small base shop in NH in 1982. I want to add my thanks to a Good Human being. My children grew up on your fundamentals…you can’t hide your character..work hard live right find something to believe in, all you can do is all you can do but all you can do is enough, the suns gonna rise up tomorrow and its gonna go down tomorrow night and theres nothing you can do about it, when youre a leader its like being up on top a flagpole everyones looking at your butt. They are two boys, now men, who love God, good Christians and respect people…yes sir no sir. When I get to heaven someday, if God will let me, I will say I just did not want to be a dead, dull, disalusioned, Dadgum crybaby but to Be Somebody with Him! You cant understand the difference you have made Art say Hi to Angela and your Children…God Bless…Steve Thompson, Manchester, NH

Just wanted to thank you for your excellent personal finance primer, “Common Sense”. My Dad gave me a copy of it when I was in college, and it set me on the right financial course early in life. Art you are my hero. When I read your story from the 700 club web sight, well I love your honesty. Art you are my mentor!!! You can not mock the past performance Art. You are the king at what you do. You have been a hero for alot of us out there. You are the Stud of all Studs Art. What you gave us with your hero talks we can’t pay you enough for the value we all got. I still play your cassette tape, “believing in you” When I get depressed at 60 y/o this 2008 I put the tape in while driving my car and still get pumped up from your words. I was in Primerica in the early 90s. I got a big knott in my stomach at that time when you left. I said,”Here go the best of the best!” No body filled your shoes like you did. Mike Sharp tried it. Rich Susy. Micheal P, But they were never the same as you. I had to still put your tape in and listen to pump myself up!!! You helped me to be successful in my own business I have today. I used your same principles and belief system what you taught us back then. It all works. Art Thank you and God Bless from my heart. James K

Truth be told, you are a great leader. Yet I will not hang on your shoes. You walked miles to pave the wave. I believe you walked the right direction, yet I will walk those miles again. Yesterday is gone. Today my foot aches. Your footprint does not ease the pain. Yet it shows me, you were able to continue your walk, crusade, and destiny. Vince Lombardi once said, “The difference between a successful person and the others is not a lack of strength or knowledge but rather a lack of will”. I agree. Your will caused winning. It is you as Lomabardi was to his players. I want to be and will be. Yet I know the record books and stories, but I am not interested in yesteday. More importantly, I give you thanks for my tomorrow. Your past is the hot ashes amongst my feet. I hope to learn and grow. For among others, you will play a vitalrole in learning to start and maintain the fire with Primerica. Thank you for your sweat; most coaches stay on the sidelines.

I am still doing the buy term and invest the difference concept. A.L. Williams changed after you left and it will never be the same. Your DO IT speech was one of the best ever. Your All You Can Do Book was super great. I will never forget you Art you are the greatest of all time.

Sure wish the ALW days were still here. I have not seen the hope, opportunity, leadership, and had the ALW Family since things went awry. Stuck with the new company for awhile and even went back a few years later but it was not the same. Met and spoke with you a couple of times when I was young. Hard to believe in other companies they seem to be pushing fake dreams without a cause. But all was not lost, through ALW I went from being quiet and shy – to positive, assertive, and not knowing how to quit. If ever you want to start again let me know. Thanks

    Good Day, Mr Williams.
I am a life insurance adviser with AIG (Australia) for the last 2 years. I am age 28, and I am very much inspired by you and your fellow sales rep (previous and existing).
I stumbled across your blog from wikipedia, as I always search for mentors in the life insurance industry. I am marvelled at how you have helped ordinary people into millionaires and I wish to do the same noble deeds like yourself to my team mates. I want to help my team to be rich and successful, to really understand Louis Armstrong’s song “What a wonderful world” we are all living in.
I will do what you do, religiously, and I truly believe time is at my side.
Thanks for your contribution to humankind and you have touched millions eventhough we have not met.

    Hi Art,

I worked with you on the OEI project. I came in as your Dir. of Catering and, happily, did just about anything required.

You and Angela are remarkable people I will never forget. The day Angela gave me a copy of DRACULA, my favorite book, because I had mentioned it in passing, concretized my philosophy that it’s all in the details.

I have been back in NYC since 2006 and am blessed, thank you very much! Your generosity and embrace, as fleeting as they were, provided me with one of the greatest experiences of my life.

Art, I stumbled upon this website and wanted to drop you what I hope is a note of encouragement! I was a young SVP with AL Williams in New Mexico back in the day. I can honestly say that YOU together with that special company changed my life. Thank you for being a GREAT coach and mentor in my life. Frankly the business was never the same for me after you left…so long story short I went into full-time ministry in March ‘96 then in September ‘07, at age 47, I left the mega-church I had been with for 12years(BIG decision) and planted a new church.
My years with ALW has a LOT to do with how God is using me today!

    Hey Art.

I’m an 18yr old pursuing my future in the amazing business you started in 77’. I live in Ontario, Canada, and my coach is a man named Ray Young. I started reading your book ‘Coach’ about a week ago, and finished yesterday. I just wanted to say that was the most inspirational story i’ve ever heard, and to thank you because my vision has always been to do something great, and help my family obtain financial independence and you have created a legacy that will help me do that. In the past year ive almost lost my life a couple times, simply by conforming to societies ‘norm’. Although that all changed when i found Primerica, my new addiction. And i guess in a way i want to thank you for putting a system in place that has saved my life. This may sound strange, but in a way i feel like i know you though our coach Ray Young. An SNSD who leads his people the A.L Willams way. There are many parallels between your lives, and he is a true student of your teachings, a mentor, a motivator, and soon will be a movement in our country. Just as you were in yours, and as i will be when it is my time lead. You are one of my Heroes, and one day i will meet you. I know this because my ‘What’ and my ‘Why’ are big enough to overcome any ‘How’, similar to yours. God Bless you Coach Williams.

This is truly exciting to hear of you after all these years. As a former NSD I have always held my years with A.L.Williams deep in my heart.I first met you at Frank Dineen’s convention in Gattlinburg in 1982. After I was saved from my whole life policies, by a retired navel captain,I was so mad that I would, and still do,spread the news for free.I own my own plumbing business,at age 22, and was not looking for another opportunity but I agreed to go meet Frank and yourself and off I went. I loved attacking the most powerful industry in the world and never losing because we were RIGHT !!
But the truth be known, I joined YOU and when you left and were kept away from us I guess I lose the spirit.Life is alot more than money.
I did take was I learnt and put all 5 of my children through college including 2 doctors and my son has a 5 yr degree from Drexel University in bio-medical engineering.

I went back to building houses successfully until I had 12 house trusses fell on me and shattered 4 vertibrat and am totally disabled with cronic pain [9 yrs ago.]I have lost everything and am just beginning to get back on my feet.My family is everything to me , just as my ALW family was back then, and it hurts not to be able to do more for them {meaning my 9 grandkids} and my loving wife. She is strugeling to keep us going and we recently set her up in her own business as a dog groomer. We are tring to file for a grant or low interest business loan to set up a doggie day care and expand the salon.
It is so frustrating not to be able to do anything. I can’t even use my brains because of all the pain medication I have to take just to get up everyday.
What keeps me going are the two phrases I live by. Yours “All you can do is all you can do,but all you can do is enough” and one from the late Jerry Farwell at the NSD meeting ” It is your attitude not your aptitude that will determine your altitude”
I still can’t believe that I have come across you after all these years. Thanks for being there in 1982 and I hope you and Angela are doing well and if you should talk to Frank, please tell him and Debbie hello.
    Respectfully;
    Your Former N.S.D.

I had the pleasure of speaking directly with you and Angela a time or two in Las Vegas (though there is no reason why you would remember). I wrote a rather long, heart-felt letter to Angela once to which she sent back a personal reply which revealed that she had indeed read and was touched by what I had sent.

Greg Gentry and I shared an office in Parkersburg, WV and were a part of the Kip Ridley, Ronnie Barnes organization. I count it a pleasure to have been an RVP with the original team that won the 1st national championship. The 1984 celebration in New Orleans is a special memory that remains clear in my mind to this day. What was it, 40,000 of us at that meeting? I will never forget walking into the convention center with the Rockbusters Song blasting our senses.

After only 7 years from a standing start… knocking off Prudential’s butt as the largest seller of life insurance in the world that year was just too, too satisfying :) Come to think of it, so were old agent confrontations. I’m suddenly remembering how much I hated those guys

I just can’t say enough about what all the “Just Do It” and other Art ism’s and principles have meant to me over the years. Sometimes when it seems that the stupidity of various political situations become just too much to contemplate, I will recall you talking about Margaret Thacher’s little war in the Falkland Islands and how it had no bearing on our day to day lives… just do it… ha!

I am no longer in the financial services business for no particular reason other than life just sometimes goes in unexpected directions. Like Sharmaine Hobbs said in a previous comment, there was a time that I went through a wilderness experience and felt like a failure after I was no longer active in the business. And, as with so many others who were involved with ALW, my relationship with God was something that was like a master control overlay program under which all of life’s activities were subjected. I gave Him complete permission to take my life in whatever direction it needed to go in order to develop me into who He wanted me to be. So I figure that wilderness experience was ordained from above.

Years ago, I had the good fortune of crossing paths with a man who in some ways reminds me of you. Kelley Varner is a well known leader in the church world and has had a major impact in the lives of God’s people around the world. He was talking one time about the trials that the people of God go through. His closing remarks were about how the most important thing one can say is that after all is said and done… I’m Still Here!!

Well, I AM STILL HERE. No weapon formed against me did or will prosper. Life is strange, is a huge understatement. Who would have thunk it… of all things, I found myself providing electronics service manuals for vintage audio equipment on the internet. An internet presence often leads to other things so I’ve recently been investigating and learning about some other internet marketing type things.

The most recent thing that has excited me is a new internet advertising model by NetAudioAds. It primarily consists of targeted 5-second audio ads that play to internet users worldwide. There are also plans to implement the world’s first Internet Emergency Broadcasting System. In many ways, I consider my involvement with NetAudioAds akin to my days with A.L. Williams… being a part of something larger than myself. I’m also about to start developing a blog site where I’ll be bloviating about many things… and probably some old ALW war stories and principles :)

I’ll close with this… I’m just another example of the old adage, “You can take the boy out of ALW, but you can never take the ALW out of the boy.”

    Thanks a million Art!!

    Art,
You have been on my gratitude list for at least two years now and tonight I googled your name and was happy to find you. I see that I am in great company. I read every single entry. I read a saying that goes something like, there is a forest (not a tree) in every acorn and that sums up your life quite nicely. You were the acorn and everyone here and across the land became the forest that resulted as a result of you believing in and going after your own personal dream and then inspiring thousands upon thousands to do the same.

Not only did you change the way Americans protected themselves with insurance, but you have touched millions of lives as evidenced here and served as a catalyst to transform our lives in one way or another. I just want to thank you for the role you played in me becoming the woman that I became. I was with ALWilliams in Richmond in the mid-80’s with Donnell Richardson and Iva Bradley. I was a single Mom with much determination and your company was introduced to me at a time when I needed it the most. It was a testimonial of Sherry Bohannon at a convention I attended that touched my heart because she was a single mother also. I felt if she could make it work, so could I.

I was with the company for about 5-6 years and excelled, earning the rank of SVP. But life unraveled and I went through what I call my wilderness experience. At one point, I felt like a failure because I was no longer with the company (after it changed hands), but I remembered the principles and the success I had experienced. I found my courage and I began again. There were many more twists and turns on my journey and I soon learned that each juncture was a building block for the next. I opened two different companies and managed to earn a living, but I knew that I still had not touched my true greatness. I kept plugging at it and then decided to take a real estate class.

I didn’t know that it would be a life changing decision for me, but it was. It was where all of the life lessons, your teachings, my drive and determination, my calling as an advocate all intersected. Real Estate became the vehicle I used to change my life by empowering other people to have their own exclusive agent when they purchased properties. And then real estate was the final building block that prepared me for my new heart’s desire…to inspire and empower 100,000 women to help them become the woman they were born to be. I am thankful for every year and every lesson I learned with ALW. Thank you for daring to go boldly for what you believed in which inspired us all to do the same. My journey truly began at ALW and it was the cornerstone of the foundation that helped me bring forth my true gifts and calling to live my life’s purpose.

Thank you again for touching my life.

Art, you inspired my Dad, a Kentucky dirt farmer, to reach for the stars in the days of A.L. Williams. He taught me the same principles that allowed me to accomplish my dream of becoming an Air Force fighter pilot. Now I am reading the book you gave him “Pushing Up People” to help me with my MonaVie business. I WILL get you as a conference speaker in the next 3 years. You’re still changing lives for the glory of God!

I am 63 years old. I have recently married again and have taken on responsibility not planned. In my reverie “All You Can Do” came back to me, as I read his book when employed at Ford Motor Company. I retired after 30 years. I have ordered another copy from Amazon.com. Mr. Williams bio was an inspiration to me in my early years at Ford, and as I embark on two new careers, real estate and investing, I want to remind myself again that all you can do is enough. Please, if possible, give my best to a man that I think is an inspiration to people that know they can succeed.

This past week was my first opportunity to see a clip from the speech that many have entitled “Do It.” It was an inspiration to me to see how much conviction you spoke with and how your organization was built upon your principles and beliefs. I work with WFG and have been the one who talked more than walked. Funny I was born in 1987 when you gave that speech. I Thank You because what I’m missing is the DO IT part. I’m gonna get to work.

I worked for Primerica for about 6 months in 2006/2007. During that time I had my husband, Robert L. Polk, replace his policy with MONY (he took out in 1999) with a Primerica policy for $200,000 in January 2007. My husband passed away March 15, 2008 of an ruptured abdominal arota anurysum, there are no symtoms until after it happens. The agent, a friend of mine was given the death certificate on the night of my husbands viewing. She never turned it in. I had to turn it in a few weeks later when I found out she hadn’t. She did call the home office but didn’t turn in the policy or the list of names and address’s of beneificary’s. It is now April 16 and Primerica still hasn’t paid out on the policy. The agent was gone 2 days last week to a convention in Atlanta for women, again all this week on a cruise she won for a contest held by Primerica. The employee handeling the claim at Primerica was gone all last week on Vacation and was also out sick yesterday. During that time no one is working on anything. I have a stack of bills to be paid and still more coming in. I am so disappointed with Primerica, I won’t ever refer anyone to them again.

    Dear Art:
I was a regional manager in Richmond Virginia under John Allred and Ray Easterling. You were a big influence in my life, Art, and I still quote you today—esp …”All you can do…” I was so happy to be able to see you speak back then and told people I sat up close, hoping to catch any of your spit that might come my way! My son Cameron, born in 1989 while I was an ALW team member, was elected Chaplain of his Leaders Club at the YMCA for 2 years and often used your book “Pushing Up People” for his devotionals. You inspired me to leave Corporate America, and I never went back. I was a manager for another home-based marketing company for awhile before buying, publishing and successfully selling a local business magazine, and am now considering a district sales manager position that would be require me to continue doing all the things you taught me in developing people. So, I just want to say that it’s nice to see you are still an inspiration and to thank you for being a light in my life.

Your book “Pushing Up People” is one of the best kept secrets for network marketers and business people.

I don’t know if Art Williams monitors this blog or not, but if you do, I have a story for you that you may want to read. Many years ago when you were just starting your buy term invest the difference life insurance business in Denver Colorado, I was one of those early recruits. I was doing well but, that was before you were able to get Massachusetts Indemnity Life to back your program and the pay checks weren’t coming in a very timely manner and I couldn’t hold on at the time, to see your dream through.

Now before you get alarmed that some nut is claiming you owe them money, don’t worry that is not what this about. What its about is this, we had a seminar up in the Colorado Mountains at Vail Colorado I think, but at that seminar you gave a speech called Learn to Dream Again, I actually recorded that speech. Over the years I played it so many times I finally broke the tape where it couldn’t be played anymore. Most importantly I never forgot the message.

The reason I am posting to this blog, I just wanted you to know how you effected one persons life, Where you followed your dream and built one of the largest firms of its kind ever. I have done the same in the Internet world. You may have seen or read about us on the internet, if not just type in pay per play and you will quickly find all you ever wanted to know about us. Please don’t misunderstand I am not spamming this site, I just want Mr. Williams to know how much I appreciate his teachings.

So for anyone who might be reading this, if you dare to dream as this speech directs you to do, you can accomplish things beyond your wildest dreams, our net work reaches over 1.2 billion WebPages on the Internet, we are currently serving 565 million audio ads in a given month, although we are just getting started, all of the principals of that speech are at work here.

We didn’t use Mr. Williams Multilevel Marketing method, we used a viral campaign of our own design on the internet, but we have some 49,000 people marketing our product and as a by product of our efforts, we have created one of the best work at home business opportunities ever.

Just like the program was when I joined AL Williams years ago our opportunity is absolutely free, all it takes to be successful is to work hard and smart.

True enough I was a bust in the insurance industry, but I am here to tell you that Art Williams, was building a business for sure but more importantly he was building people whether they would benefit him or not, because I never really made him any money per sey, but he truly enriched my life, and I just wanted to say thanks, I didn’t mention the name of my company in this blog because I don’t want people to think I am spamming this blog, I just wanted to say thank you for all you have done over the years.

Mr. Williams, thanks for your perserverence. The fact that you hung in there and fought thru the tough times allows millions of people to have a shot at doing something special.I’m learning more and more that what truly is awesome, is the person you become in the process of building your business. I appreciate and admire the person you are today. I joined this business at 19. What really moved me was your “Do it” speech. I will go the masses and Make you Bill Whittle, Jim and Mary Kocher etc extremely proud of me before December you’ve paved the way to the millions so shouldn’t it be my time to do the same?

Hi Art Hope all is well! When all things tell you to quit. That is where I am. I have invested too much time and family resourses to quit. Quiting is not an option. What should I do? I answered myself. Just do it ,right?

Dear Mr. Williams; I have just finished reading Coach, a wonderfully inspiring book. To that end, you mentioned a few other books you had penned and I have looked on your website for copies, alas to no avail. Would you be kind enough to direct a fellow coach to those other resources? Thank you for your assistance!

Art, we never met but I met some friends of yours who opened their hearts and their homes when Craig Sorenson and team tried to start Prime Financial services in the UK. I had the honour of meeting Kip and Carol Ridley and stying at their home in Georgia, I recall seeing the pictures of the trailer home outside the dressing room upstairs in Kips home and listened intently as he and Carol spoke about family values and integrity.

I went to the head office of Primerica and sat at the extreemly large board room table (ex Lloyds) and heard about the impact you made on the lives of others, you made a huge difference to the lives of thousands and I for one want to say thank you from England.

Those I met taught me a great deal about building teams and working in depth, Tap roots come naturally now and I am indepted to you.

I wish you and yours and everyone at Primerica and all former and current ALW advocates and long and heathly and productive life.

Art, I saw you speak in Las Vegas in 2006. My very first Big event with Chris Howard’s Organization. I was brand new in the business, and you changed my whole life. Through your inspiration and simple concepts of pushing up people, I know I will reach financial freedom and help others do the same. Thank you so much for this great opportunity.

Hello. So I’ve got a pretty silly question, but I think Mr. Williams is the only person who can answer it- or at least the only relatively accessible person.

To the point: A few years ago I bought a shirt at a garage sale that says “I AIN’t AVerAge” on the front and “AL WILLIAMS Bloomingkemper Region” on the back. Picture available here: http://www.brettroyal.com/average.gif. For a long time I wondered about the shirt, specifically why it said what it said and why the letters were capitalized in such a fashion. I read in a 1987 Money Magazine article that Mr. Williams wore a similar sweatshirt once, so I thought he might be able to help me out and answer my question. The Money article is available here: http://money.cnn.com/magazines/moneymag/moneymag_archive/1987/06/01/83883/index.htm.

So this is obviously a very, very unimportant question, but perhaps Mr. Williams could take a few minutes to think back more than 20 years to genesis of said t-shirt.

    Thanks,
    Brett

You probably get a million letters asking the same thing.

    Dear Art,

I stumbled upon your site this evening and feel truly blessed to be able to write a quick note. My dad was in A.L.Williams back in the early to mid 80’s in SA Texas. After 30 years in the military he was glad to have something he could call his own and absolutley enjoyed his time with your company. The day he made RVP was one of the proudest of his life.

He was diagnosed with leukemia a short time after his army retirement and spent his last years in physical agony but his spirit was always high. ALW absolutely changed his whole life! His desire to help others with the company’s products came second only to the joy of sharing the enthusiasm for life and success that he saw in you and those he worked with.

I still have several plaques and t-shirts from his ALW days and only recently found a tape of your do-it speech. It has been played near to death but never fails to inspire.

Thanx a million for all you have done.

Was recruited into “A.L. Williams” by a guy named Dean Mings from Campbellsville KY in 1980-1981. Dean moved to a National Sales Director under Ronnie Barnes and eventually I moved to a Regional VP position…made several trips to Ronnie Barnes’ house in TN and was able to make a couple of trips to see you in Boca…was married at the time to a lady who’s dad was way up the food chain at Prudential…those 7 years we were married were pure “hell” if you know what I mean…we’re no longer married, yes because of what I was doing w/ A.L. Williams, but you know what? If I had it to do all over again, I wouldn’t have changed a thing…what you were doing was absolutely right and I loved being the underdog and “taking it to” the “Big Guys” every time…loved helping people…good time in my life for sure and even though never made it big with the company, I came away with a better understanding of myself and my potential…even helped a lot of people along the way both clients and recruits…you’re a “special” guy Art…wished I could have played ball for you in high school…you’re the kind of guy that if I were going to war would want in the foxhole with me…still pull the books out, “Pushing-up People” etc, and scan through…have used your principles to this day working with people…you’re the best…just keep it up!
    Best,
    Dan

Art & Angela it has been many years since we have seen you both we got to meet you in Ca with Kenny hughes got our small group to meet with you that was one of my biggest thrills of my life i will never forget. i have been in the company since 89 i have not made it big but i will never stop trying. i LOVE helping people this has never been about the money for me maybe that is why i haven’t made it big. my wife Jennifer and myself have decided we really want the ring so we can help our family as we all get older and we know that ALW is the only way. even know we are PFS i will allways be a ALW termite. when we get the ring my biggest wish would be for Art to be there. we are going back to doing it just like you did Art it is all about the heart and not the FNA or other things its about changing lives 1 family at a time. God bless you both we miss you alot

    Dear Mr Williams,

I’ve just finished reading the German version of your outstanding book “all you can do is all you can do” and I really want to thank you for sharing your thoughts and your concept of success with all the future-winners in the world.

It really encouraged me to strive for success and not to give up, even if doubts arise. Making appointments isn’t easy at first but your words are always on my mind. Art, first let me say that i’m glad to know that you are doing well. I had a close friend (Dale Reese) that was a nsd with A.L.Williams back in the day. I was young at the time and was not part of your company, but i attended many of Dale’s meeting and fast start schools over a couple of years. At the time i was 19/20 years old, my dream at the time was to become a NSD (like Dale) with A.L.Williams. Of course that never happened but the things I learned about people, doing the right thing, being a leader, and inspiring people has enabled me to become a good leader for my small organization. I run a Chevrolet dealership outside of Dallas. Everyone says that one of my biggest assets is to stand in front of my sales staff and give a meeting that inspires them. I just stand in front of them and give a Dale Reese opportunity meeting and it works every time. Good luck with the book, I ordered one today, i didnt know that you had a book out until today. You need to get out there and spread the word. Can’t wait to read it, good luck to you Art and god bless !!!!!!!!!!

Merry Christmas Art! Your blog is great, as are your words, legacy and example. One of the things that I most love and respect about you is your unbelievable passion about what you do and coaching others to become (not average and ordinary) but GREAT! Your words on this blog just reiterate that message as you take the time to encourage, motivate and inspire the thousands of entreprenuers you have influenced to become the best they can be (including myself.) Your powerfully unique entreprenurial spirit lives on in the lives and legacy of others. As I mentioned in my previous correspondence with you, thanks for being who you are, doing what you do, and sharing it with others. SYATT, go, go, go!

Hi, Art!! Thanks for being such a FANTASTIC LEADER and inspiring thousands of people to do more than they ever dreamed of!!! I have shared your thoughts with Kiwanians all over the world and in recruiting new Kiwanis members and building new clubs have found your principles of leadership to be the same in service organizations as they are in business!! One of our new clubs has been motivated to build a “Playground in the Sky” in the little town of Fountain Inn, SC. This small club of 23 members decided that they could make a huge difference in their hometown by providing a unique treehouse type playground that would be constructed with materials that would allow handicap access as well as allowing adults to accompany kids through the entire area. Because of your great leadership principles, this group of leaders has already raised over $122,000 toward the $500,000 goal and should begin construction in July, ‘08. It is awesome to watch policemen, realtors, teachers, preachers, engineers, housewives, accountants and prople from other professions come together for such a great cause!!!
Thank YOU for all YOU did for me and my family and providing TREMENDOUS LEADERSHIP!!! As Lt. Governor for two divisions in S.C. and helping motivate 14 clubs to grow membership, to sponsor more Key Clubs, Builders Clubs, and Circle K Clubs, I have used your leadership principles over and over. YOU are a hero not only to me, but to many hundreds of Kiwanians in the Carolinas!!! Thanks again!! Please give Angela a hug and kiss from Chris and me!!!
    Love, Bob & Chris

I went with AL Williams in 1984 as my 1st sales job part time while I was in the military and had never sold anything and no one would hire me to sell. I had no warm market but went door to door and sold a decent amount at night. I did it for a few months and it was time for me to leave Virginia my term for military was done… I had to move back to Texas. I had to get a full time selling job selling cancer ins to school employees. And then sold Annuities. I have broken Many Sales Records and can honestly say I am one in a Million… I have not seen many if any that can out work/sell me. However, AS A LEADER… I struggle daily. This is where you’ve made a huge impact with me… I have MILES TO GO. But I won’t ever quit trying to get better….. I know own a Debt Company. I regret having not stayed with AL Williams. But I went on to be vp of sales lead and built sales depts of 200 plus inside salespeople and manage many mgrs too. And I still have your material and listen to you every week… my kids know all your stuff. You’re on My audios in my computers work and home, my Ipod, and my car CD’s. (I do confess to having a Huge Motivational Library of other speakers too) BUT, You’re my coach and you’ll never know how much you impact me and my salespeople even today. You talk about “FINDING A HERO”... you have always been and always will be a Hero to me… even though you could never possibly know. I watched your 700 club visit. I never knew what happened to you and now I know and I am sorry to hear it… but even now… your life makes a huge impact everyday. I hope that you are able to read this, just because few people could ever Deserve and Earn the Gratitude and Encouragement that you have and you have made such a difference in the world. One day I hope to get and Opportunity to see you live… If I don’t, I’ll See you in Heaven. Thank You Art for your Heart and your Passion for others.

I learned a lot from you and wanted to thank you for being a positive roll model in my life you let me know that im not average and ordinary. Im a little down right now a few years ago my multi million dollar dream came crashing down and I just cant seem to find a way to get back up. Im now 39, a husband and father to 3 wonderful children and im trying my best to provide 4 them but its so tuff I feel like quiting I cant tell and dont tell that to anybody but I feel like your are my teacher and I know u been there before. Art I dont know what to do and im tired of faking it until I make it. if you have any advise or help I really would appreciate it. you really were and still is my hero. Phillip A Lockhart

    Dear Art,
It has been a long time since I was on your team at A.L.Williams and you probably won’t remember me. However, I wanted to contact you because I want you to know what a positive influence you have had on my life.

I am of proud you and what you did for America and me.

I was in the company as a Sales Rep to an RVP during the ‘80’s. I was the one that was at Boca Raton as one of the leading Sales Reps. You might remember me when I told you that I had thrown my tennis shoe up to the net to get some stuck balloons out of the webbing. I was so worried because the shoe when it came down hit an older woman on the back of her neck and she and her husband threatened to sue us and A.L. Williams. I came up to you when we were dispersing and you said, “So what, don’t worry about it.” I laughed so much after that.

I only told you that story to see if you remembered me but I don’t expect you will since there were so many people there. I was under Hubert Humphrey’s team under Jeff Miles out of Fresno, California.

We were young and had a lot of children. I was a High School Coach (basketball, etc,) and teacher. We couldn’t make it any longer on my salary and I came into A.L. Williams to make a little extra money. You were so motivating. You see, I had played Basketball at a Div I school (Centenary College of Louisiana) and professionally (tried out for the Lakers in 1975 and played in Mexico and Puerto Rico). Also, my Dad, Gene Victor, was one of the winningest basketball coaches in the country at Mt. San Antonio College in Walnut, California. So, your attitude, style and positive outlook were just exactly what I needed in my life (and it was what many in America needed then and still do today).

Anyway, when you sold A.L. Williams, it was over for me. Not that I didn’t believe in the crusade. I left because I felt myself pulling in another direction to serve God full time. So, as I was teaching I began a small Bible College (at that time, on the internet) with a handful of students. Today we have about 500 students online and about 200 locally here in Bakersfield, California. And I am the full time President and Founder.

Here’s the connection to all of it. When I left A.L. Williams I would see or contact my friends that had been in the company and many of them would complain that the company sold them out and that you deserted them. THERE COULDN’T BE ANYTHING FARTHER FROM THE TRUTH! I always told them and my wife, Art Williams and A.L. Williams was a great experience for me. I learned such great lessons about staying positive, doing your best and believing in yourself and others.

You have been such as great influence in my life and in so many people’s lives that I want to make sure you know how much I appreciate what you did for me and so many others. Even today, when I meet an insurance salesman that says ‘whole life’ is the way to go, I let them know the truth.

I think that is the biggest reason why you were so successful and why so many were against us. Most people can’t handle the truth.

Anyway, I want you to know that we all ‘recruit’ students at our college. We lead by example. We have a tough team of people doing what’s right in business and we are successful and although we are small, I believe we are the best Bible College in the world, today.

I would be remiss if I didn’t say you have had a great hand in helping to shape my life and, in fact, you are a part of what we do at Summit Bible College.

Never, never, never regret what you did or regret that you had to move on. God used you perfectly for that season and He will use you again in great ways. You have touched so many people and helped so many people learn to “stop whining and get on with it.”

Thanks so much for all you did for me and for who you are and what you mean to so many.

God bless you and your family,

    Jeff Victor

Hey, Art, my wife and I received the “Everybody Wants a Coach” CDs and DVDs today. We’re watching them now with our two daughters. Awesome stuff, and yet common sense at the same time. Thanks for continuing to “do it.” You’re a stud for sure.

Art, you’ve moved me in a major way. I’ll get right to it. We’ve been the number one recruiting baseshop in WFG for 6 months now but I must meet you one on one and I don’t know how to get a hold of you. Not in a group setting but one on one. You tell my where you will be, anytime, any part of the world and I will fly in to get a chance to spend some time with you. I’m in Northridge, CA. It won’t be a waste of your time, I promise. You feel free to get a hold of me at 8182016949.
